Savory Broth-Braised Pork Shoulder Slices
Ingredients
- 2½ to 3 lbs sliced pork shoulder bone-in or boneless, 1–1.5 inches thick
- 1 medium onion sliced
- 3 cloves garlic crushed or minced
- 1 cup beef broth or chicken broth
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning blend
- 1 bay leaf optional
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Olive oil or butter for greasing dish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Lightly grease a large baking dish or Dutch oven.
- Layer Aromatics
- Spread sliced onion and crushed garlic evenly in the base of the dish.
- These will act as a flavor base and help prevent sticking.
- Season & Arrange Pork
- Pat pork slices dry with paper towels.
- Season both sides liberally with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
- Arrange pork on top of onion and garlic layer.
- Add Liquids
- Pour 1 cup broth and 2 tbsp Worcestershire gently around the pork.
- Add bay leaf, if using.
- Do not pour directly over meat — keep seasoning intact.
- Cover & Braise
- Cover dish tightly with foil or a lid.
- Bake in the center of the oven for 4 to 4.5 hours, or until meat is fork-tender.
- Optional Browning
- Remove foil. Preheat broiler to high.
- Broil 3–5 minutes to crisp and brown the top edges of pork.
- Watch closely to avoid burning.
- Serve
- Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
- Spoon pan juices and softened onions over pork.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, roasted vegetables, or low-carb sides.
