Our Lady of Swan Valley

Renewal, Reflection & New Beginnings

Our Lady of Swan Valley is a small seasonal Catholic church in the Swan Valley near Condon, Montana, within the Diocese of Helena. It is formally known as Our Lady of Swan Valley Mission and is currently served as a mission connected to St. John Paul II Parish. The church is located along Highway 83 in the Swan Valley and has traditionally served both local residents and summer visitors. The title “Our Lady of Swan Valley” is not one of the Church's major universal Marian titles (such as Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Lourdes, or Our Lady of Fatima), but rather, is a dedication of the mission church to the Blessed Virgin Mary under a title associated with the Swan Valley region, which lies between the majestic Mission Mountains and the towering Swan Mountain range. The mission has a reputation as a summer chapel, reopening seasonally for Masses.
All are warmly welcome to join us for the celebration of Holy Mass each Sunday at 5:30 p.m. at the little church nestled in the beauty of Swan Valley. Whether you are a year-round resident, a visitor enjoying the area, a vacationer passing through, or simply seeking a place of prayer and fellowship, we invite you to come and worship with us. People of all faiths, denominations, and backgrounds are welcome to attend. Following Mass, please stay and enjoy dinner and conversation as we gather together in friendship and community amid the peace and splendor of this remarkable valley.
What Makes This Little Church Different? The most important difference is not the building, the music, or even the people—it is the Eucharist. At every Catholic Mass, during the consecration, a profound miracle takes place. Through the mystery of transubstantiation, the bread and wine become the true Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ. Though they still appear as bread and wine, their deepest reality has been transformed, and Christ Himself becomes truly, really, and substantially present upon the altar.
While many Christian communities gather to worship God and remember Christ, the Holy Mass is far more than a remembrance. In the Mass, the one sacrifice of Jesus Christ on Calvary is made sacramentally present, and the faithful are invited to receive the Bread of Life that He offers for the salvation of the world. For over two thousand years, countless saints have centered their lives around this mystery. It is the living presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist that makes the Mass unlike anything else on earth.

All are Welcome... Come Home to this Little Country Church

In the fall of 2019, just as Our Lady of Swan Valley was preparing to close for the winter season, an anonymous visitor unexpectedly donated a large sum with one request: that the church remain open throughout the winter months. At the time, no one could have known why this gift had arrived. Shortly thereafter, a local mother learned that she was expecting her sixth child. When serious complications arose during the pregnancy, her family began making daily visits to the church, praying together before the Blessed Sacrament and entrusting both mother and child to the loving care of Jesus truly present in the Holy Eucharist. Day after day, they knelt before the tabernacle, asking for healing. In time, a healthy baby was born, and the family remains deeply grateful for the countless hours spent in prayer before the Eucharistic Lord. They believe that the grace and healing they received came through the powerful intercession of Christ present in the Blessed Sacrament. For them, the unexpected gift that kept the church open was not a coincidence, but a providential reminder that God often works in quiet and hidden ways through His Eucharistic Presence. "I am with you always." — Matthew 28:20
“Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you do not have life within you.” — John 6:53
At the heart of this little church, nestled among the forests and mountains of Swan Valley, is the greatest gift ever given to mankind: Jesus Christ truly present in the Holy Eucharist. The Eucharist is not merely a symbol, but the Real Presence of Christ—His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity—offered to us in love for the life of the world.
Whether you are a lifelong Catholic, belong to another Christian tradition, practice another faith, or have never believed at all, you are welcome here. If you are searching for truth, longing for purpose, carrying burdens, asking questions, or simply wondering whether there is something more to life, we invite you to begin the journey with us. Come and pray. Come and listen. Come and experience the beauty of worship. Come and discover a community that desires to become a family in Christ.
The Eucharist is the beating heart of the Church because it is Jesus Himself who calls us, heals us, strengthens us, and transforms us. Throughout history, countless souls have found hope, peace, forgiveness, direction, and the courage to begin again through an encounter with Him. Even if you are not yet able to receive Holy Communion, your presence matters. Come and sit with us. Bring your hopes, your doubts, your questions, and your prayers. Allow Christ to meet you where you are.
Perhaps your journey begins with a single visit. Perhaps it begins with a quiet prayer. Whatever brings you here, know that you are welcome. May this little church become a place of grace, friendship, healing, and renewal—a place where hearts are drawn closer to Jesus Christ, where faith is rekindled, and where souls discover the purpose for which they were created.
The pew waiting for you may be empty today, but perhaps it has been waiting for you all along.

Who is this Lady who is "Our Lady"?

Why do we have such a devotion to Mary? The answer is both simple and deeply biblical: Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ. Because Jesus is truly God and truly man, Christians from the earliest centuries have honored Mary as the Mother of God—not because she existed before God or is greater than God, but because the child she carried in her womb is the eternal Son of God.
Catholics do not worship Mary. Worship belongs to God alone: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Rather, Catholics honor Mary as the greatest of God’s creatures, the first and most faithful disciple of Christ, and the spiritual mother whom Jesus gave to His followers from the Cross. Just as we might ask a trusted friend to pray for us, Catholics ask Mary to pray for us and to lead us ever closer to her Son. Throughout Christian history, the faithful have turned to her as Mother of Mercy, confident that she lovingly intercedes for her children before the throne of God. The saints often spoke of Mary’s maternal prayers obtaining graces for sinners, softening hardened hearts, and pleading for mercy for those who seek her help. In sacred art and devotional tradition, she is frequently portrayed as extending her mantle of protection over her children and, through her powerful intercession, holding back the hand of divine justice so that souls might have time to repent and return to God.
Mary’s role is never to draw attention to herself. Throughout her life, she continually pointed others to Jesus. Her message remains the same today as it was at the wedding feast of Cana: “Do whatever He tells you.” Every authentic Marian devotion ultimately leads to a deeper love of Christ, a stronger faith in His Gospel, and a closer union with Him in the Holy Eucharist. Mary’s greatest desire is that every soul be reconciled to God and share eternally in the mercy won for us by her Son on the Cross.
Here at Our Lady of Swan Valley, we honor Mary not as an alternative to Jesus, but as the Mother of Mercy who lovingly intercedes for her children, shelters them beneath her mantle, and gently takes them by the hand to lead them ever closer to her Son.
Throughout history the swan has long been regarded as a symbol of purity, grace, fidelity, and maternal care. Its white plumage has often been associated with innocence while its lifelong devotion to its mate reflects faithfulness and enduring love. In nature, swans are especially known for their attentive care of their young, sometimes carrying cygnets upon their backs and fiercely protecting them from danger. These qualities offer a beautiful reflection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose purity, faithful love, and maternal protection have inspired Christians for centuries. As Mary lovingly guides her children toward her Son, so also the swan has been seen as a fitting symbol of gentle strength, watchful care, and steadfast devotion. Nestled amid the beauty of Swan Valley, Our Lady of Swan Valley invites all who enter to find peace beneath the mantle of a Mother whose love is both tender and strong, far greater than anything that a swan or any other creature could ever compare to, leading hearts ever closer to Christ.

Hear His Call and Return to Him

O Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Swan Valley, and Sweet Mother of the Christ Child, we dedicate this website, this church, and all who visit here to your loving care and protection.
As this little country church reopens its doors, we ask you to obtain from your Divine Son a renewal of faith throughout Swan Valley. May hearts long distant from God hear His call and return to Him. Fill these pews once more with souls seeking Christ, families united in prayer, and believers eager to worship and adore.
May what begins in this humble church become a ripple of grace extending far beyond these mountains and valleys, spreading throughout our nation and the world. May the light of Christ shine forth from this place, drawing countless souls back to the Sacraments, back to the Church, and back to the Heart of God.
Through your maternal intercession, may every vocation flourish according to God’s holy will, every family become a domestic church, and every heart be transformed by the love of your Son.
And may the day come when every knee bends, every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord, and all creation joins in giving glory, honor, and praise to the Most Holy Trinity.
Our Lady of Swan Valley, pray for us.
Holy Child Jesus, bless us and lead us home.
Amen.
While we continue to pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life, perhaps we are called to pray even more deeply for the renewal of a culture that recognizes the dignity of every human person and encourages all people to seek God's will for their lives. When hearts are open to grace and souls are formed in truth, men and women become free to hear God's call and courageous enough to answer it. Such a culture fosters not only priestly vocations, but every vocation God intends—holy marriages, devoted religious, faithful priests, and lay men and women committed to building His Kingdom. Let us pray that all people may discover their God-given calling and generously say "yes" to the Lord, so that our churches may once again be filled with worshippers, our communities renewed in faith, and the world transformed by souls striving to do His will for the greater glory of God.
